Planning an Iceland cruise in 2027? Join me aboard Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam for a 14-night voyage round-trip from Amsterdam. This itinerary visits Iceland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands and the Shetland Islands.
Iceland is at the heart of this itinerary, with six port days that take you from the dramatic Eastfjords to Akureyri in the north, the Westfjords, Reykjavík and the volcanic Westman Islands. Scenic cruising through Berufjordur and Eyjafjordur adds another perspective on Iceland’s remarkable landscapes.
Beyond Iceland, the voyage visits Kirkwall in Scotland’s Orkney Islands, Runavik in the Faroe Islands and Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Four days at sea provide time to enjoy Zuiderdam between destinations.

Your 14-Night Iceland Cruise 2027 Itinerary
Embark Zuiderdam in Amsterdam and settle in for two weeks of North Atlantic exploration.
Enjoy a full day at sea as Zuiderdam sails north toward Scotland. It’s a good opportunity to explore the ship and ease into the journey.
8:00 am–5:00 pm
Kirkwall is the capital of Scotland’s Orkney Islands, where Norse and Scottish history are closely intertwined. Explore St. Magnus Cathedral, prehistoric sites such as Skara Brae, and a landscape shaped by thousands of years of settlement.
Spend another day at sea as the ship continues toward Iceland.
7:00 am–4:00 pm
This small fishing village on Iceland’s east coast is surrounded by dramatic landscapes shaped by glaciers, mountains and geothermal activity. The day also includes scenic cruising through Berufjörður.
9:00 am–7:00 pm
Known as the capital of North Iceland, Akureyri sits at the head of Eyjafjörður, surrounded by mountains and striking northern scenery. The region offers access to Lake Mývatn, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes and charming fishing communities.
The day also includes scenic cruising through Eyjafjörður.
8:00 am–5:00 pm
Surrounded by steep mountains, Ísafjörður is a gateway to Iceland’s rugged Westfjords. The compact town has historic wooden buildings, while the surrounding region offers dramatic coastline, waterfalls and excellent opportunities for outdoor exploration.
8:00 am–6:00 pm
Grundarfjörður lies on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, an area known for black-lava beaches, waterfalls, glaciers and striking coastal scenery. The town’s most famous landmark is Kirkjufell, one of Iceland’s most recognizable mountains.
7:00 am–11:00 pm
A long day in Reykjavík gives you time to explore Iceland’s colourful capital or venture farther afield. Popular possibilities include the Golden Circle, geothermal spas, Icelandic cuisine and the city’s museums, shops and architecture.
8:00 am–5:00 pm
Heimaey offers a fascinating look at Iceland’s volcanic history. The 1973 eruption of Eldfell dramatically reshaped the island, and today visitors can explore its volcanic landscape, harbour and the Eldheimar museum.
Relax aboard Zuiderdam as the voyage leaves Iceland and continues through the North Atlantic.
7:00 am–4:00 pm
Runavík sits on the island of Eysturoy and provides a gateway to the green mountains, fjords and small communities of the Faroe Islands. Faroese culture reflects strong Norse roots and a close relationship with the sea.
8:00 am–5:00 pm
Lerwick combines Scottish and Norse influences in the remote Shetland Islands. Explore archaeological sites, local shops and maritime traditions, or head into the countryside in search of dramatic scenery and Shetland ponies.
Enjoy one final day at sea as Zuiderdam sails back toward the Netherlands.
Return to Amsterdam and disembark after 14 nights exploring Scotland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and the Shetland Islands.
